Plenty of fun was had at the Melbourne Moomba Festival despite the entire city being battered with thunderstorms and flash flooding which cause havoc with the City of Melbourne major event festivities over the holiday long weekend. Despite the bad weather the fireworks display lit up the Yarra River and the children’s faces on Monday night.
Rusty Johnson and the Howard & Sons Pyrotechnics team experienced more than Melbourne’s four seasons over the Moomba weekend but were please to at least get the Monday night fireworks display up safely.
“I have never experienced such a sever and intense storm in my entire life. The storm was so powerful, we had so much rain in such a short period of time that it impossible for the event management team and the Parks Victoria team to safely proceed with the Saturday and Sunday fireworks display. The waters on the Yarra were too rapid, full of storm debris and were just not a safe place for our marine crew to be working on, which is disappointing but you can’t argue with mother nature.” Rusty Johnson said.
“We still had heavy rain and strong winds on Monday afternoon but on cue, the skies cleared so will light them up with pyrotechnic stars. It was a great show and very rewarding end to the weekend after so much hard work was put in by the whole crew. Now we just need to dry out.”
